This is lizzard to Release Acoustic EP in The Netherlands
American singer/lyricist Lizanne Hennessey and Dutch musician/producer Roland Stolk (a.k.a This is lizzard) are planning to release a second album, "The Orcas Sessions" this Christmas. This acoustic EP with six tracks was recorded in Studio Hideout on Orcas Island, WA in the United States, in collaboration with third member of the band, American singer/guitarist/bassist and Orcas Island local, Gene Nery.
After working thirteen years towards their debut album, "Won't Give Up", the duo were determined not to wait too long before releasing a second album. "The Orcas Sessions" includes an original Christmas song and an intimate live cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'".
The alternative-pop/rock album "Won't Give Up", with ten diverse, original tracks was released on April 8, 2011 in Washington state, Lizanne and Roland's 'home away from home'. It was well-received and is currently being spun on large radio stations and podcasts throughout the nation and is beginning to attract attention by the European media as well. This is lizzard has also been nominated for some independent music awards, including the 2011 Hollywood Music in Media Award.
The husband-and-wife team have been making music together since 1998. Lizanne Hennessey writes and sings all lyrics in English, her native language. Prize-winning multi-instrumentalist Roland Stolk writes all music and takes full credit for the production of both albums. "The Orcas Sessions" is due for release in December 2011 under Australian label Blue Pie Records.
Reviews of "Won't Give Up":
"10 songs are included [on 'Won't give Up'] and it all sounds very professional and quite impressive. Lizanne is a great singer, with a strong soulful approach in her voice and despite each song is featuring a wide range of music influences that go from Reggae, Folk, Rock to even a bit of Country and Dance, the music has a feel-good summer poprock feeling all the time."
- Strutterzine Magazine 09/2011
"Bringing a very marketable brand of pop mixed with folk, reggae and country it really is a treat for the ears when listening to their songs. You know those songs you think you know but you don’t? They sound familiar but you’re just not sure? There’s a certain art to that type of song and ‘This is Lizzard’ nail it. The reason you think you know it is because it’s good enough and catchy enough that it should be on the radio… In short, it sounds like something you should be listening to! The production value in their records is clean and clearly devised in a way that aims to keep it simple while sending the message behind the song with an almighty burst of sound."
- Ciarán Brennan The Music Ladder 07/2011
"There is absolutely no one genre that can explain the sound of band This is lizzard’s new album Won’t Give Up. Just when you think a genre description works for one of their songs, they turn right around and give the next song different musical characteristics. From modern day pop, alternative, and rock to folk, country, reggae, and 80’s pop, they make sure to cover all of the bases. On top of that, Singer Lizanne Hennessey’s voice has a bit of a country twang to it, giving the band a unique edge to their sound."
-Alec Cunningham, ReviewYou 05/2011
"We thought your track had rousing energy that moved us as listeners... Your lead vocals really grabbed us. We think your rhythmic elements on this release can hang with the best of them. Tight, clean and interesting playing. Keep writing those anthems. Above almost everything else, melody is an essential musical quality. Yours jumped out at us. Good melodies don't come easy; you should be proud."
- Hello Music, 04/2011
"There is very little genuine rock and roll out there at the moment - but Steve Conte has hit the nail on the head with this one!"
-- Steve Lillywhite, Producer (U2, Rolling Stones, Johnny Thunders, XTC)
"If there ever was a rock and roll guitar album that could kick start a sense of rock and roll adrenalin in the tradition of Lou Reed, Johnny Thunders, Mink DeVille and Television, it has to be Steve Conte and the Crazy Truth."
