Labtones Live! 1 October 2011

The first Labtones Live! event took place on Saturday, October 1st 2011 in Merz in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. On this first evening, a total of five artists from this music network presented themselves live to the audience.

Alpha Eleven from Amsterdam is te first artist ever to perform on Labtones Live!. He is also known on Labtones as 'Maanman', his Dutch singing alter ego. Alpha Eleven plays two sets during the evening, consisting of a variety of songs from both projects. This results in a mix of English, Dutch and even French songs, including some well-known hits from the LabCharts. He performs alone on the intimate stairstage, supporting his singing using guitar or piano. His blues and folk songs are stunningly beautiful (and so is his voice) and he manages to leave everybody speechless.

The members of Duncan Idaho are full of ambition; they recently scored record and booker deals and are ready to conquer the musical world. And without a doubt the world is ready to be conquered by these sympathetic indierockers. Their songs have brilliant melodies and are full of creativity and beautiful harmonies. It will only be a matter of time before we will hear these on the (inter)national radio!

Theo Sieben is a singer-songwriter inspired by traditional folk and roots music. A group of people gathers around the stage to enjoy his melancholic songs. Sieben clearly likes the atmosphere and talks extensively between songs to inform the audience what the songs are about. Using electric and acoustic guitars and his voice he manages to produce an authentic sound that forces you to listen closely and enjoy his beautiful songs.

Each individual member of This City Shines has lots of experience in the national and international music world playing in bands such as I Against I, Davenport, San Andreas and Jeremys. With this amount of experience, things can't go wrong musically. Indeed, This City Shines rocks loud and steady. They are influenced by bands like Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World, meaning that they treat the audience with rocksongs with nice melodies and original guitar riffs. Singer Katelijn has a good voice and stage presence. Pretty soon this band will play the big festivals!

The Hilton Halo are one of the first bands that registered on Labtones. Since then, they scored an impressive number of LabCharts hits (including a #1 position for All In). This band is serious about their music and want to stay in control over their own art. Recently, they turned down a record deal and booked a trip to LA to work with the world-famous producer Greg Gordon to record a couple of songs. Everything about this band is of very high quality, from the songs to the playing and the stage performance. The audience enjoys the rocksongs, which are full of power. Synth sounds play a big role in their music, giving it an original sound. The band is even forced to play an encore, in which they play the famous Labtones hits All In and Your Man, with Labtones co-founder Arjan on Kazoo (!). The Hilton Halo provide the perfect ending to a great first edition of Labtones Live!
